Gameplay
The AVS is definitely one of the harder weapons to master. Its immense recoil can lead to the user missing shots left, right and center. It is strongly advised that you switch to the semi-automatic firing mode when dealing with ranged personnel.
One of the best uses of this gun is as a Designated Marksman Rifle. Its high rate of fire combined with solid accuracy and a larger magazine than the SVT give it a distinct advantage over the slower-firing semi-automatic weaponry. The full-auto "panic button" setting should be reserved for when close-quarters building-clearing is necessary, as its hipfire is reasonable but not great and its recoil is above average. Since the Bauer build, the URAH-2 Barrel becomes a crucial part of the weapon, providing "four upsides for one downside". However, the one obvious downside it has (a reduction in the rate-of-fire) is actually a benefit for mid-range automatic fire -- the slower rate of fire gives the user more time to reset his aim before firing again, which is then in turn aided by increased accuracy, far damage, and reduced recoil. The true "hidden" downside of the URAH-2 barrel is the slight reduction in close-range damage, however the rifle will still remain within its bullet-per-kill bracket depending on the ammo used (7N1 and Type D will still provide a three-hit kill, while Type L-41 JPH and Type L Light Ball a four-hit-kill).
While Fast Reload is beneficial, Marathon Man may be a better choice as this rifle is better suited to the "run-n-gun" style of gameplay. Marathon Man will not only allow the user to run for longer, but will allow the user to have more stamina after sprinting short distances, giving the user a lower weapon sway when he or she begins firing -- a serious flaw of the AVS-36. If the user has Veteran Membership, Heavyset Gold will give a better chance of making it to cover alive when in the open, while Fast Reload will give the user a better chance at fighting more targets should they waste too much ammunition on one target.
The AVS-36 has the highest damage, longest range, and fastest bullet of all assault rifles, but it has the longest reload time, smallest magazine size, and highest recoil.
