History

The Karabiner 98 Kurz (or K98k, Kar 98k), is a bolt-action military rifle, developed and designed by German arms manufacturer Mauser for use by the German army. The rifle is based heavily on the successful Gewehr 98, which carried Germany through World War I. It is chambered in 7.92×57mm Mauser, and it became the standard issue for German infantry from its inception in 1935 until the end of World War II. The rifles were considered cumbersome, and were easily outclassed by semi-automatic rifles in intermediate ranges. But due to the extreme accuracy of the Karabiner 98 Kurz in factory fire testing, it was determined that the Karabiner 98k would make an exceptional sniper rifle. Between 1935 and 1945, over 14 million Karabiner 98k rifles of all variants were built, 132,000 of which were sniper rifles. [1]

Military demand for Karabiner 98k rifles was so great throughout World War II that its manufacture was outsourced to many different arms factories, including ErMa Werke, Saur, Steyr, Gustloff Werke, and others. The remainder of these rifles are considered to be exceptionally reliable, and they remain a contemporary staple of German military tradition, still serving as the parade rifle for German armed forces to this day.

Gameplay

The Karabiner 98k is a very accurate rifle able to effectively engage enemy at long ranges. It has very accurate sights although it can be difficult to use them in dark maps. This rifle can be modded to deal over 100 damage (1 torso hit to kill), additionally it has the longest near range compared to all other faction's bolt action rifles. This makes it one of the best weapons for long range kills. It's ill-suited for close quarter combat, even if modded to OHK (one-hit-kill) due to its low firerate and long length. It's advised to use it with another weapon better suited for short ranges (pistol, SMG(only with Hoarder badge) or even SA rifle). Unmodded requires ability to hit a target twice (unless hit in the head) - with its low fire rate it can be a big challenge to do it before the target jumps into cover or shoots back. It has the slowest rate of fire and reload speed compared to all other faction's bolt action rifles.
