Description[edit source]

The MG42 is the latest light machine gun of the German Army. With its very high rate of fire it is feared by infantry facing it. The high rate of fire also makes it hard to control, which is why it is mainly used from the prone position.

The Maschinengewehr 42 (or MG42) is a recoil-operated air-cooled general purpose machine gun, designed and manufactured by Mauser. Chambered in 7.92x57mm Mauser, the MG42 hosts a greater rate of fire over its predecessor, the MG34. The MG42 was significantly cheaper and much more reliable than its previous iteration, less prone to jamming, and more resistant to heat. The MG42 was capable of firing more sustained bursts of fire before barrel changes, and the rotating-bolt action was replaced with a roller-lock mechanism to make dust less likely to cause a weapon malfunction. The weapon was also half a kilogram lighter than the MG34 when unloaded.

The MG42 remained as the standard issue infantry machine gun for the remainder of World War II, and its reliable legacy carries over into today's German army Rheinmetall MG3 GPMG.

Probably the strongest defensive weapon in the game, the MG42 combines extremely high rate of fire with good damage and can deal with big groups of enemies in a very short time. It isn't well-suited for close quarters because of its length and also isn't very accurate. Burst fire is advised at longer ranges due to very high recoil and the gun swaying side to side from long periods of automatic fire. (NOTE: You can fire the MG42 now while moving, however it is extremely inaccurate and isn't recommended).

This weapon is comparable to that of the MG34, just with an upgraded rate of fire (ROF). Howver, it's still worth buying, especially due to much better accuracy and sights.

Also, the MG42 can penetrate some light tanks (haven't tested on medium tanks) if you hit in the right spot. For instance, for the M2A2 light tank, the spot to shoot is the rear. For the M5A1 Stuart, you have to aim for a certain spot on the top rear behind the turret. This tactic hasn't been fully tested on russian tanks or medium tanks of any kind, however the T-38 (starter Russian tank) can be penetrated on the top.

  • You can walk or crouch to hipfire while moving. Very useful when approaching corners or inside buildings.
  • Your accuracy increases substantially if you crouch or go prone.
  • Always fire from cover, and be mindful of enemy positions. Your gunfire and tracers make you a prime target for snipers.
  • Coordinate with teammates! This machine gun shines on the battlefield when supported by friendly units.
  • This weapon functions better in defensive roles or as fire support for offensive units.
  • Use suppression, or covering fire. Spraying at enemies in defensive positions will force them into hiding, allowing your allies to move up.
  • It is advisable to carry anti-personnel mines or frag grenades to help defend your position.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be an absolutely unstoppable CQB death machine?

Have you also ever thought about how it feels to lose control of your weapon while shooting?

Now you can know both with this revolutiona- sorry, I mean, batsh*t insane build.

  • Be careful to now bump your weapon against a wall due to its high length, as this will put the weapon out of action for a few moments, and that is a terrible thing to have happen to you in CQB.
  • This is a joke build. It should not be attempted to be used in a competitive match or on large maps. Basically, use this on Skirmish to have fun, I suppose. If that is even possible with this build.
